Linger

Can you hear it

The softens in the air

Takes you back to that point in time

Where it all seemed alright

The smile was a contagious religion

Moments of ridiculous sayings

That always came out flippantly

Now, it’s a conscious effort;

A force smile, a tentative wave

It’s all robotic, set on a timer

Do you hear it now?

The laughter of the past

That lingers in the air as I pass
