keep me whole

We are all different from the inside and out

Our minds work differently

Where you see wrong, I see right

We are taught this from the moment we took our first steps

We are taught to respect our elders

We are taught what is socially acceptable

As we grow older we are looked down upon for lacking manners

In the work force we are categorize by how quickly we work

In our own families we are judged by the amount of success we have

We are constantly compared to others and what they find publically correct

Who decides what is true and what is not?

Which side of me is publically acceptable?

Is it the half that holds her tongue, so she doesn’t disrespect?

Is it the half that enjoys walks in the rain?

Who decides the value of your pigmentation?

Should it be me or should it be you?

Who am I to categorize you? Who are you to categorize me?

Society has and will try to fit you in a neat little box

It has tried to change you and demean you

We are all different from the inside and out

Our minds work differently

Where you see wrong, I see right

We are taught this from the moment we took our first steps

We are taught to respect our elders

We are taught what is socially acceptable

Who am I to categorize you? Who are you to categorize me?

Society has and will try to fit you in a neat little box

It has tried to change you and demean you

Don’t let me change you and don’t you change me.
